RSJ Unleashes 8 - 1

A week after struggling to score against FC Ireland, RSJ erupted for 8 goals against CCSL Premier newcomers Buenos Aires of Stockton. Pat Nelle led all scorers with a "hat trick" and 1 assist and 5 different RSJ players joined the goal scoring onslaught.

The game opened with RSJ coming out in a 3-5-2 formation with a back three of Marcos Mercado, Brent Hamilton and Kenyon Hill. Jimmy Frazelle, Art Temblador and John Jones started as the three center midfielders with Eliot Ricks-Chambers and Ralph Cazel on the flanks, and Anthony Chimienti and Pat Nelle up top. Pat Nelle didn't waste any time scoring as he found the back of the net within the first minute of the game. Art Temblador sent a penetrating ball that beat the entire back line and found Nelle in stride. Nelle calmly beat the keeper to open is RSJ account for the season. In the seventh minute Nelle solved the Buenos Aires off-side trap when he slipped a pass to Jimmy Frazelle which led to Frazelle's first RSJ goal of the season doubling RSJ's lead 2-0. Buenos Aires cut the lead in half when a Buenos Aires forward skillfully dribbled 3 RSJ defenders on the right side of the penalty box and knocked a shot past RSJ 'keeper Conor McNulty. A minute later, Ralph Cazel took the ball down the left side and found and open Anthony Chimienti. Chimienti beat the Buenos Aires center back and slotted his shot past the Buenos Aires 'keeper to increase the RSJ lead back to 3 - 1. Chimienti scored his second goal of the game in the twentieth minute when he intercepted an errant Buenos Aires pass at the top of the box and hit a "highlight reel" blast into the right side of the goal. Not to be outdone, Temblador and Nelle hooked up again as Temblador used his superior vision to spring the speedy Nelle with a perfectly weighted through pass to again beat the entire Buenos Aires back line. Nelle did well to avoid any contact as he calmly tapped the ball around the rushing 'keeper on his way to the goal. The first half ended with RSJ leading 5 - 1.

RSJ continued to score goals and Eliot Ricks-Chambers assisted John Jones to make the score 6 - 1. Ricks-Chambers found Jones above the right side of the Buenos Aires penalty box. As Jones dribbled, he looked at the far post and caught the 'keeper leaning the wrong way as his shot found the net on the near post. Pat Nelle completed his "hat trick" as he blasted a shot past the 'keeper from the top of the box to make the score 7 - 1. Rounding out the scoring was Ryan Rhoads on an assist from Anthony Chimienti. Chimienti collected a well-placed punt from RSJ 'keeper McNulty and slipped a ball to Rhoads who found himself  1 on 1 with the 'keeper. Rhoads and the 'keeper collided and the ball bounced off Rhoads and into the goal for a final score of 8 - 1. RSJ now moves to 2 - 0 and is in first place with a goal differential of 8.

This Sunday, RSJ faces Titanes of Gridley at Southside Park at 12:00 PM.
