RSJ Back To Winning Ways, Defeat San Jose and Cruz Azul

What a difference a week makes. Last week, Real San Juan suffered its worst defeat in club history. RSJ's 6 - 3 loss to CD Lobos appears to have awakened the sleeping giant. RSJ earned six points this week with a 2 - 1 victory over San Jose and a convincing 5 - 0 win over Southside darlings Cruz Azul. The west side fans could do nothing but watch as their favorite team play well in the first half, then succumb to the wind and relentless RSJ attack in the final 45 minutes.

Goals by Ryan Rhoads and Anthony Chimienti gave RSJ a 2 - 1 victory over San Jose on Wednesday, March 12th at Southside Park. The win snapped RSJ's three-game winless streak. Despite their place in the CCSL Premier table, San Jose has always been a tough match-up for RSJ. Wednesday's contest was a hard fought match that was tied 0 - 0 at the conclusion of the first half. In the early moments of the second half, "Super Sub" Ryan Rhoads put RSJ up 1 - 0 when he chipped the San Jose keeper from about 30 yards out. Not to be outdone, Anthony Chimienti doubled RSJ's lead when he buried a free kick from about 25 yards. San Jose continued to battle and create chances from quick counter attacks. In the closing moments of the game, San Jose scored to make things interesting, but RSJ managed to preserve the lead and valuable three points.

The highly anticipated game versus Cruz Azul was tough for about 50 minutes. RSJ began the game against the wind and had to fend off the potent Cruz Azul attack early. The stalemate was broken in the 22nd minute with a great combination sequence resulting in a goal by Art Temblador. The sequence began when a ball through the midfield was dummied by Jimmy Frazelle and received by Eliot Ricks-Chambers. Ricks-Chambers then served a perfect cross to a wide open Art Temblador at the far post. Temblador calmly placed the ball in the back of the net to make the score 1 - 0. With the absence of Marcos Mercado, the RSJ defense of Brent Hamilton, Utodi Madu, Kyle Navarro, Alvaro Delgado, Dominick Jakubek and Ndubuisi Udenyi did a superb job of locking down the Cruz Azul attack. The first half ended with RSJ leading 1 - 0 anxiously awaiting the opportunity to go with the wind in the second half.

RSJ's offense seemed to awaken in the second half. In the 58th minute, Patrick Nelle scored to double the RSJ lead. A penentrating ball from Todd Simmons that beat the entire Cruz Azul back line allowed the speedy Nelle to get into the box a beat the Cruz Azul 'keeper. Two mintues later, John Jones played a ball over the top of the Cruz Azul defense that sprung Anthony Chimienti. One on one with the Cruz Azul 'keeper, Chimienti calmly chipped the ball over his head to increase the RSJ lead to 3 - 0. Chimienti clinically scored his second goal in the 85th minute when Art Temblador was able to find him open in the Cruz Azul box. John Jones scored RSJ's fifth and final goal with an assist from Ndubuisi Udenyi making the final score 5 - 0.

Up next for RSJ is a Wednesday night game at Southside versus the always tough CASA Sporting.
