Real Whips Sporting 5-0!!

After a disappointing performance against Dixon Leon the week before, Real San Juan came to life and put on a clinic against Sporting with a 5-0 victory. It was without a doubt Real's best performance this season as first place was on the line.

Real's first goal came about 20 minutes into the game when Anthony Chimienti drilled a half volley shot from 18 yards out off a Jimmy Frazelle half volley cross. For the remainder 25 minutes of the half, led by Donny Ribaudo, Real controlled possession as well as the tempo of the game. It was Sporting's goalkeeper, Bryan Schaffer, who was able to keep Sporting in the game by pulling out shot after shot from all angles and ranges sending the game into halftime at 1-0.

The second half started right where the first half left off as Real continued to fire off shots on Sporting's goal. It didn't take long before Ryan Rhoads recorded his first goal in a Real uniform. Rhoads found a loose ball from a corner kick and put it away. Chimienti scored the third goal after he carried the ball from the right side of the 18-yard box to the left evading multiple defenders, then slotted the keeper to the far post with a left footed instep. Keith Gilbert put away the fourth goal by hitting a rocket volley as he ran onto a bouncing ball from the right corner of the 18-yard box. The scoring didn't stop there as Alvaro Delgado recorded his first goal of the season after stellar performance. Delgado combined with Frazelle and Eliot Ricks-Chambers for several quick give and goes before firing a right-footed shot that grazed Chimienti and beat Sporting's keeper. Todd Simmons, Travis Ryan, Marcos Mercado and Kenyon Hill led Real's solid backline. Conor McNulty recorded another shutout for Real.

Real's next match is a friendly against powerhouse Club Peru from San Francisco's Super League. The game will be played at Southside Park on Sunday November 26, 2006 at 1pm.
