Real Turns it on in 6-2 rout of Team Mexico

Real walked away with a convincing victory this past Sunday as Pat Nelle turned on the burners. Despite starting the game with 11 players eventually getting the 12th, Real got on the board early when Kyle Navarro delivered a great ball to Keith Gilbert on the right flank. Gilbert took a shot to the far post that was deflected but followed in by Pat Nelle and scored. Right after the early lead, Real had a series of breakaway opportunities but were denied by the Team Mexico goalkeeper. Team Mexico equalized the game at about the 35th minute with a follow up header after a hard driven shot hit under the crossbar, bounced down and back up into the air. With a few minutes before half, Team Mexico scored on themselves, as the keeper slipped on a pass back header giving Real a 2-1 advantage at half.

The second half began the awakening of Pat Nelle as he nailed a highlight goal on an unassisted 30 yard bullet into the side-netting. His shot came from the left side to the keepers left post. Minutes later, Nelle turned it on as he beat a few defenders to the goal line and dropped a ball back to the six yard box that was put away by Ali Managhebi. Real made it 5-1 when Travis Ryan hit a driven ball over the top of Team Mexico’s defense to Managhebi who nicely placed an instep shot to the far post giving him his second goal of the game. Real gave up a penalty kick on a questionable call when a consistent Conor McNulty, Real’s Keeper, challenged a ball in the box. As McNulty punched away the ball, he took down a Team Mexico forward which resulted in a penalty kick. Minutes later, Nelle struck again as a beautifully played ball into the space put him into the open field and he dribbled by the keeper and slotted the ball for a 6-2 victory. Real began to look in form for this campaign as Marcos Mercado, Tim Bystrowski, Alvaro Delgado, Kenyon Hill, Brent Hamilton and Anthony Soltero all helped get things rolling.
