Real Surges Toward CCSL Title, Defeats Tough Dixon Side
A makeshift Real side defeated Dixon 3-2 at Hall Park on a windy Sunday afternoon to move one step closer to another CCSL title.
Missing both goalkeepers, winger Ndubuisi “Nd” Udenyi was asked to play ‘keeper for a Real team already missing four starters. The starting back four consisted of wing backs Kenyon Hill and Chris Gaschen with Utodi Madu and Alexis Maurtua playing as center-backs. In the midfield Alvaro Delgado and Amobi Okugo took their place in the centre of the midfield with Ralph Cazel.
Despite being shorthanded, Real took control early on in the 1st half and created early scoring chances. After Dixon failed to clear a corner from the left flank, the ball found its way back to the foot of Temblador who bent the ball back to the Dixon ‘keeper for what looked like a routine save. Instead, the ‘keeper fumbled the ball into his own net for a shock goal. Real continued to make chances and were aided by the substitutions of Eliot Ricks-Chambers and Oscar Sandoval for more offensive firepower. Real’s second goal came when a ball from over the top beat the Dixon offside trap to the feet of Frazelle who one-timed his shot into the corner of the net to give Real a 2-0 lead they would take into halftime.
RSJ made changes at the half that would prove to be costly, especially when Dixon proceeded to dominate the first segment of the 2nd half, scoring two goals in six minutes. The game looked similar to the first meeting of the two sides when Dixon came from behind to win at Southside park earlier in the year. With the knotted at 2-2, Real reverted back to their earlier line-up and exchanged scoring opportunities with the home side. The breakthrough for Real came when a poor clearance found the foot of Okugo, who slotted the ball past the desperate Dixon keeper for the 3-2 lead. RSJ held off for the last 15 minutes of the match and should have went two goals up, but the Dixon ‘keeper made a fine save on a 1 v 1 opportunity.
The win puts Real in fine position to take the CCSL title with one game remaining versus Aguias PSC.
