Real Run Riot Over Acoreanos
Real San Juan continued their winning streak by soundly defeating newly-promoted side Acoreanos of Turlock, 6-0 at Southside Park. The win puts Real at a perfect 3-0 for the season, tied in first place with AC Cruz Azul.
Despite missing a couple starters, Real put on a dominating display of skill and precision that left the Turlock side clueless. The scoring began early when striker Pat Nelle collected a pass near the top of the box and sent a rasping shot that struck off a crossbar, only to be followed up and put away by his strike partner, Jimmy Frazelle for the early 1-0 lead. It was in midfield where Real looked the most dangerous with the quartet of Art Tremblador, Amobi Okugo, Alvaro Delgado and Eliot Ricks-Chambers playing neat football and leaving their opponents chasing shadows. Tremblador was especially effective with his crosses, creating several opportunities. Real went ahead 2-0 when a shot deflected into the path of Ricks-Chambers who sent his close range shot into the roof of the net.
RSJ’s defense was rarely troubled, which made for an uneventful first half for ‘keeper John Tozer, filling in for Conor McNulty. Real made changes midway through the first half, but the level of play never wavered and they took a deserved 3-0 lead into halftime when Frazelle got his second from the left side.
The second half began much how the first ended with Real taking the initiative. Nelle collected the ball in space and proceeded to race past three Acoreanos defenders to slot the ball in the side netting for a comfortable 4-0 lead. The back line, marshaled by Utodi Madu and Ralph Cazel continued to dominate in the air and were rarely forced into any hasty decisions. As the half wore on, three of Real’s younger stars, Chris Gaschen, Hugo Brambilla and Ade Akinsaya were introduced and made an instant impact when Gashen’s weighted pass found an unmarked Brambilla who slid the ball into an empty net.
Nearly at the death, RSJ made it six when a run by Ricks-Chambers ended with him being taken down in the box to set up a deserved penalty. Cazel stepped up and coolly placed the ball to the ‘keeper’s right to make it six for Real. The squad was pleased with their all around effort but understand the road only gets tougher as the opponents become tougher while the Southside pitch gets more treacherous.
Next week Real play up and coming side Real Santa Rosa who earlier lost to Cruz Azul 2-1.
