Real Only Needs One Half to Score Six Goals

Looking to rebound from last week's disappointing 1 - 0 loss to San Jose, second place Real San Juan traveled to Woodland on Super Bowl Sunday to play relegation threatened Team Mexico. It seems as if some players opted to start their Super Bowl parties early with Real suiting up twelve players and Team Mexico suiting up eight. The game began slowly with Real maintaining possession, but lacking intensity and focus. Team Mexico simply tried to conserve energy, defend and find an opportunity to counter attack. The goal scoring onslaught started with Eliot Ricks-Chambers. Anthony Chimienti weaved through the Team Mexico defense and found a wide-open Ricks-Chambers for the first goal of the game. Chimienti registered his second assist of the game when he beat the Team Mexico right back and served a perfect cross to Don Ribaudo to make the score 2 - 0. Alvaro Delgado scored the third goal of the game when he stole the ball from the Team Mexico right back and hit an outside of the left foot bending ball into the far side of the goal. Delgado earned an assist when he connected with Keith Gilbert who slotted the ball past the Team Mexico goalkeeper to extend the lead to 4 - 0. Don Ribaudo added to his point total when he beat the entire the middle of the Team Mexico defense with a penetrating pass to Chimienti. Chimienti streaked to the top of the box and then hit a rocket in the upper right section of the goal. The six and final goal came when Ribaudo play a ball back to Todd Simmons who hit a low driven ball into the left side of the goal.

Real scored six goals in the first half against the short-handed Team Mexico. Facing an even longer second half filled with more goals, Team Mexico decided to throw in the towel during the second half. Real faces CD Lobos next Sunday, 2:00 PM at Southside Park.
