Real Earns One Point The Hard Way

Real battled Cruz Azul to a 3 – 3 draw at Southside Park last Sunday. For a variety of reasons, only nine players suited up for Real. The game started well with Jimmy Frazelle scoring in the third minute. Frazelle received a perfectly weighted pass from Pat Nelle on the right side of the box. His shot to the far post was deflected by the Cruz Azul keeper and found its way into the goal. Cruz Azul utilized their two man advantage to possess the ball throughout the half. Real was able to create several more scoring opportunities, but Cruz Azul took a 2 - 1 lead into half time. After drawing a foul in the box, Ruben Mora converted a penalty kick to make the score 2 - 2. Less than a minute later, Cruz Azul quickly answered with a third goal. In the eighty-seventh minute, Ali Managhebi found a streaking Jimmy Frazelle on the left side of the field. Frazelle launched a spectacular shot from about twenty five yards out to beat the Cruz Azul keeper. Cruz Azul tried to answer with a fourth goal, but a tired and determined Real San Juan team were able to hold on for the last couple of minutes.

Real and Cruz Azul honored the schedule and played this game without their full compliment of players. Cruz Azul only had eleven players available for Sunday's match. The boisterous fans that braved the rain were treated to an exciting game that ended with a spectacular equalizer. Both teams played hard and should be commended for their commitment to the schedule.
