Real Doubles Up CD Lobos 2 - 1
Real traveled to Woodland Sunday to play a CD Lobos team eager to get back in the win column. During the first twenty minutes of the game, Real had a difficult time solving the CD Lobos "Off-side trap". CD Lobos took the early lead when a Real turnover led to a CD Lobos forward receiving a pass just inside the box. The CD Lobos forward evaded a Real defender and buried a shot from about fifteen yards. Pat Nelle and his blazing speed proved to be difficult for the CD Lobos defense to contain. Nelle broke off a breakaway beating three defenders with speed only to be fouled by the last defender about thirty yards from the goal. Although the foul was called, the referee chose not to issue a card to the last defender who committed the foul. Real tried hard to contain their frustration and were eventually rewarded when Pat Nelle dispossessed the CD Lobos center back and was off to the races. One-on-one with the goalkeeper, Nelle calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net. Real took a 2 - 1 lead when Ali Managhebi played a perfectly weighted ball over the top of the CD Lobos defense to a spiriting Jimmy Frazelle who calmly chipped the CD Lobos goalkeeper who was well off his line.
In the second half, the Real forwards routinely got behind the CD Lobos defense. Although Real appeared to have solved the CD Lobos "off-side trap", they were unsuccessful in converting several quality goal scoring opportunities. The game opened up in the last ten minutes when Jimmy Frazelle received his second yellow card and a CD Lobos player received a straight red card. A questionable "no call" on a blatant hand ball almost yielded the equalizer for CD Lobos. Fortunately for Real, goalkeeper Conor McNulty made an amazing point-blank save to preserve the Real victory. With this win and a Sporting loss to AC Cruz Azul, Real is now tied for first in the Premier Division. Next week, Real faces always tough Dixon Leon Sunday, November 12th at Southside Park in Sacramento.
