Real Begins 2007 with a 5 - 1 Victory over Titanes

Real needed a big second half to defeat Titanes in the first game of 2007. The first half was typified by near misses from both teams. In the third minute of the game, Pat Nelle was fouled in the box to give Real a penalty kick. Marcos Mercado's shot hit the right post and the Titanes defense cleared the ball to safety. The Titanes forwards were able to get behind the Real defense on several occasions only to be turned away by Real goalkeeper Conor McNulty. A Titanes goal was also nullified due to an off-sides call. Pat Nelle, Ryan Rhodes and Art Temblador all did well to create scoring chances, but failed to find the back of the net. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.

The second half was quite different for Real. In the first minute of the half, Art Temblador played a penetrating ball to Utodi Madu who raced through the left side of the Titanes defense and shot the ball through the Titanes keeper's legs. Minutes later, Real diplayed excellent build-up when outside back Todd Simmons passed the ball to midfielder Keith Gilbert who played a through pass down the right flank to Pat Nelle. Nelle then streaked down the right side and hit a well-driven cross that found Utodi Madu on the far post for his second goal. Real's third goal came when the Titanes goalkeeper misplayed a through ball and an opportunistic Pat Nelle gained possession and scored his first goal of the match. Ryan Rhodes scored Real's fourth and fifth goals of the game. Art Temblador earned another assist as his corner found Ryan Rhodes inside the six-yard box for Real's fifth goal. Titanes was able to score one goal in between the two goals by Rhodes.

First place Real now faces FC Azores at Southside Park this Sunday, January 14th. Each point is vital in Real's effort to three-peat as CCSL Champions since Sacramento Sporting is just two points back in second place.
