Real Beats Club Peru All-Stars 3 - 2
Real San Juan battled Club Peru this past Sunday at Southside Park in what turned out to be a thrilling game. Club Peru of the California Premier Soccer Alliance (CPSA) showed up ready to play with 18 players, some of which were recruited as star players from other CPSA teams. The game was an excellent display of soccer for 90 minutes with a fast pace, hard challenges and good possession.
The Club Peru All-Stars from the Bay Area's CPSA.
The game got off to a fast start and tensions rose quickly as a pushing match was started by a Club Peru player after being tangled with a Real player during a tackle. It became obvious that Real was not going to step down against the well-known challengers. Real got on the board first when a flick-on header by Utodi Madu found Ryan Rhoads in front of the goal area, as Rhoads finished the bouncing ball calmly with his instep. Club Peru responded quickly as they drilled a dipping shot from 30 yards out that slid under a diving Conor McNulty. As both teams attacked back and forth, Club Peru maintained the better part of possesion, however, it was Real once again who got on the board just before halftime. It was Madu again with the assist as he took a pass from Brent Hamilton and pushed the ball past the Club Peru defense before being brought down in the box. Marcos Mercado stepped up and executed the penalty kick to give Real the 2-1 lead.
The second half started off with the same tempo but this time it was Real who took over the run of play. Real got on the board again and took a 3-1 lead when a crossed ball was deflected into the goal by a Club Peru player. Club Peru responded minutes later with a well struck 20-yard volley that dipped over McNulty. The game continued with non-stop action till the last whistle blew. The game was not only a win for Real but also a step forward for the CCSL as Club Peru left with a good impression of Sacramento soccer. Special Thanks:
Real San Juan would like to thank Dave Simmons for arranging Southside Park for the match and assigning a young and coming referee, Mr. Sandison, who was being assessed during this match. The referees all did an excellent job were also commended by Club Peru as well.
