- Real Midfielder Captains US U-18 Men to Gold Medal (Click to Read More)
Real San Juan midfielder Amobi Okugo captained the United States U-18 team to the Gold Medal at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.
The U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team took gold at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival with a dominating 5-0 victory against the hosts. Combined with a 1-1 draw against Chile in their tournament opener and an astounding 14-0 win over China U-17s, the U.S. won the four-team round robin tournament. Another game against Lincoln, another testy match that featured as many off the ball incidents as scoring chances. When these two teams met earlier in the season, Real had to pull one out at the death to secure a 2-1 win in Lincoln. This time around, the squad was made to work for their 2-0 victory at Southside Park.

Much like a similar meeting between FC Ireland and San Juan at Orangevale Park that ended up 3-2 last year, this year’s away fixture was a hard-fought 3-1 victory.
This was the first game after the CCSL winter break and at times, it showed. Despite the choppy state of the pitch, RSJ were able to have enough possession to prove dangerous. The side welcomed two new faces to the starting lineup CSU-Sacramento central defender Adam Owens and University of New Mexico midfielder/forward Chris Wright. They joined a side who started the match with twelve players.

Patrick Nelle recorded his second brace in as many weeks to defeat a Sporting side desperate to find the top half of the CCSL Premier League table. Real began the game with the veteran back line of Madu, Mercado, Hamilton, and Simmons. The midfield consisted of teenagers Gaschen, Okugo, Akinsanya and veteran Delgado. Nelle and Frazelle assumed the goal scoring duties up top. From the opening whistle, the speed of Nelle presented a match up problem for the Sporting defense.

The Real San Juan Youth Soccer Scholarship has been moved to December 20th. The drawing will be held 6:00 PM, Saturday, December 20th at the El Papagayo Restaurant in Carmichael. El Papagayo is located on the corner of Marconi and Fair Oaks Blvd. Winners will also be posted on RealSanJuan.org.

Real forward/midfielder Chris Gaschen was named Player of the Week by ESPN Rise. In the Division II High School Championship game, Gaschen had 4 goals and an assist to propel Granite Bay to a 5 - 2 victory over Oakmont. Click here to Read ESPN article.
