And The Beat Goes On…RSJ Topples Titanes

Real San Juan avoided the proverbial ‘trap game’, by beating Titanes of Gridley 6-0 at Southside Park on Sunday afternoon. A week before playing noted rival Aguias PSC, RSJ took control of the match early and never looked in trouble of relinquishing their dominance.

On the defensive side, the usual suspects delivered for the team’s first clean sheet of the season, bringing the seasons’ total of only 3 goals against in 3 league games. The back three of captain Marcos Mercado, Brent Hamilton and Tim “Tito” Bystrowski rarely looked troubled throughout the match. After spurning early opportunities to score, RSJ striker Anthony “Mario” Chimienti opening the scoring with a typically-cool finish. The second goal began with a precise cross from winger Ralph Cazel, whose ball met the head of Pat Nelle, who was initially thwarted by the Titanes keeper; However, the rebound was ‘placed’ in by Jimmy Frazelle. Chimienti would score a third to bring the score to 3-0. Just before the halftime interval, striker Ryan Rhoads added a fourth after shaking off several Titanes defenders.

New RSJ signing Oscar Sandoval made an immediate impact with two expertly-placed goals to open his scoring account. The first was a brilliant, one-time effort from a Nelle cross down the right flank. The second half also saw the season debut of Utodi Madu, back from suspension, to give the squad even more strength in depth.

Next week, RSJ faces an Aguias squad who have historically given them trouble.
